Directors Note
When I first saw the Buše walking through the villages of Baranja, the landscape where I grew up, I felt an inexplicable, childlike fear. The shouting, singing, lascivious touching, and dancing by the fire seemed mythical and magical, as if they came from simpler times. At the same time, I was fascinated by the people who still keep this tradition alive, who each year surrender themselves to joy and togetherness. And that precise moment , in which we slip into a mask and become someone else, it becomes much easier to do what we secretly long for. These motives inspired me to create the characters of Marta and Karlo, two young people whose energies and hidden passions intertwine during a single carnival day. I wondered whether the Buše would give them a reason to finally become braver, whether they would allow her to take the first step toward what she truly wants. Will a seemingly traditional framework open up an opportunity for her emancipation?

Directors Short Bio
Dalija Dozet is a filmmaker based in Zagreb, Croatia. She directs and writes short films across all genres, as well as commercials and TV scripts. She is a member of the Croatian Film Directors’ Guild and the Executive Board of Kinoklub, where she currently serves as president. She has participated in numerous professional programmes and industry events, including Sarajevo Talent Campus, Locarno Film Academy, Docu Rough Cut Boutique, Euroconnection, Odense Go short breaking ground, European Short Pitch, Circle, IDFAcademy. Her films have screened at festivals such as Zagreb FF, Sarajevo FF, Pula FF, 25 FPS, ZagrebDox, Tabor FF, DHF, and others.
